40 hours to test yourself, push higher, and conquer the Sahara over 100 km or 100 miles.

THE CONCEPT

To celebrate our 40 years of extreme adventures, we’re launching our 40th year with a brand-new, unique format: the MDS ULTRA.

This is an endurance event in Ultra-Trail format, with two distance options — 100 km or 100 miles (~160 km) — to be completed in self-sufficiency over 40 hours of continuous racing.

On the program:

  • 100 km or 160 km to cover — with the possibility of choosing your distance during the race
  • Water stations roughly every 10 km
  • Life bases every ~30 km with food, heated shelter, and support
  • No bivouac

The MDS Ultra offers a raw and poetic immersion into the true spirit of ultra-distance racing.

Limited to 200 participants.

THE FORMAT

Two distances are offered:

  • 100 km
  • 100 miles (160 km)
  • Minimum speed: 4.0 km/h
  • Maximum time limit to finish: 40 hours

You can decide your chosen distance up to the fork located around the 60 km mark. The course is the same for the first 60 km and the final stretch, with a single start and a shared finish line.

TERRAIN

The MDS ULTRA takes place along parts of the legendary MDS route in the Moroccan Sahara.
It is an ultra-distance event, and gaiters are recommended.
The course is fully marked.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

In January, the Saharan desert offers a stark contrast:

  • Daytime temperatures: 10°C to 25°C, sunny
  • Nighttime: sometimes near 0°C, feeling very cold

You’ll need gear suitable for both heat and cold, as well as potential rain.

RANKING

Mixed Duo Ranking

MDS Ultra 2026 introduces a Mixed Duo (Male/Female) Ranking.

How it works:

  • You register as a male/female duo under a shared team name.
  • You each run your race individually, in the solo category.
  • At the finish, your two times are added together to create a specific Mixed Duo ranking.

There’s no need to run side by side or cross the finish line together — what matters is your individual performance and combined time.
