The only adventure made for pairs, driven by self-sufficiency in the desert’s immensity — where the real victory is crossing the finish line together

THE CONCEPT

After the success of the first edition, experienced by a group of 80 pioneers, the MDS Raid is back in 2026: an adventure for pairs, covering either 90 km or 107 km over 3 stages.

Between a physical and human challenge, you will cross dunes and magnificent landscapes, with the shared goal of crossing the finish line together.

The MDS Raid is a return to the essentials, offering a more authentic and minimalist adventure: minimal route markings, a night under the stars during the second stage, simpler water stations, and complete food self-sufficiency.

PHILOSOPHY

an adventure lived as a team

The pair is at the heart of the MDS Raid. This adventure is lived as a team, from the very first step to the finish line. It’s crucial to choose the right partner, the one with whom you’ll share every challenge, every dune, and every obstacle.

This isn’t just a race—it’s a true two-person adventure where success depends as much on

physical strength as on trust and mutual support. Finding the right partner is key to ensuring a unique, intense, and unforgettable experience—a memory that only the two of you will share. One goal will unite you: to start this adventure together—and, above all, to finish it side by side.

If you don’t have someone close to join you for the MDS Raid, the organization can assign you a partner based on your fitness level.

Key Features

A Unique Adventure with the Star Night

The Raid is distinguished by unforgettable highlights, beginning with the Star Night during the second stage, which takes place over two days. Participants will spend an extraordinary night under the stars in a breathtaking location amid the dunes.

The finish line for the Star Night has been voted the most beautiful finish line of all time by the MDS team!

WATER STATIONS

More minimalist than traditional checkpoints, the Raid’s water stations are spaced approximately every 10 km and offer water resupply while staying true to the spirit of simplicity and self-sufficiency.

Medical Care

In the MDS Raid, self-care takes center stage. Participants must bring a foot-care kit to handle minor treatments themselves. The medical team intervenes only in emergencies requiring more extensive assistance.

ROUTE MARKING & ORIENTATION

Minimal Route Marking

On the MDS Raid, route marking is kept to a minimum. The experience emphasizes self-sufficiency and the ability to navigate the desert.

The route marking in the Raid is intentionally minimal to heighten the challenge—but don’t worry: participants won’t get lost. There’s no need for a compass, as GPS tracks can be downloaded directly to your phone or sports watch, ensuring reliable navigation throughout the race.

A true human-scale navigation challenge that reinforces the sense of freedom.

90 km or 107 km

THE FORMAT

Two distance formats are available for the MDS Raid: 90 km or 107 km to be covered.

Time barriers are based on a minimum pace of 3 km/h, giving everyone enough time to complete the adventure.

During the Star Night on Stage 2, you’ll cover either 19.4 km or 37.2 km on the first day.

You’ll stop for the night in a nomadic desert camp under the stars.

The following morning, you’ll set off at sunrise for 21.9 km and then spend the rest of the day at the bivouac.

The RAID concept is open to everyone

The RAID concept is open to everyone. Whether you’re a runner, a walker, or simply an everyday adventurer, you can experience this challenge at your own pace.

You can also choose between several distances to tailor the effort to your level or preferences. And to give you an idea: 70% of participants walk. The MDS RAID is not a race against others, it is a personal challenge to be experienced to the fullest... and shared.

BIVOUAC

THE MDS RAID
BIVOUAC

The MDS Raid bivouac is designed to offer simple, practical comfort, making it the perfect place to completely disconnect. You’ll sleep in the iconic yellow MDS tents, designed for one person, identical to those used in the MDS 120 formats, provided and pitched by the organization. Set up in the same location for the entire adventure, the bivouac is organized into clusters of individual tents. Each participant has a numbered spot and keeps the same tent from start to finish. At the end of the adventure, the tent is given to each participant as a souvenir of this unique experience.

The bivouac is also a place for connection and sharing, where strong bonds are forged between participants who come together to experience this extraordinary adventure. A shaded area is set up in the center, offering a space to rest and chat, especially on the rest day.

Facilities include toilets (don’t forget to bring your own toilet paper), shaded areas, and charging points for your watches. You’ll find everything you need to recover after each stage, in a simple yet functional environment. There is no electricity, no network coverage, no showers, and no specific water supply for washing — only the essentials to reconnect with what truly matters: the adventure, nature… and other people. You can bring wet wipes if you wish and use part of your water rations for washing.

Each day before setting off for a stage, participants must completely empty their tent and leave nothing inside, under penalty of a time penalty. Phone calls are prohibited within the bivouac to preserve peace and rest for everyone, though you can of course step away from camp to make calls.

Food & Self-Sufficiency

The MDS Raid is a fully self-sufficient adventure. Each participant must carry all the food they need for the duration of the event.

The organization only provides water and tents at the bivouac.

Medical team

In terms of safety, a dedicated medical team, recognizable by their orange vests, patrols the course. These trained volunteers intervene directly on the terrain to ensure monitoring and to help participants when needed, thereby enhancing safety in this demanding environment.

HOTEL

hotel accommodation

To make planning easier, hotel accommodation is provided two days before the start and two days after the end of the MDS Raid.

This allows you to arrive relaxed, acclimate, and prepare your gear under the best conditions. Upon your return, these additional nights offer well-deserved rest, helping you recover and fully enjoy your experience.
