THE FORMAT

THE MDS TREK PERU

The MDS Trek Peru is a demanding trek in the desert, without the weight of a backpack and with a little more comfort. You are self-sufficient for food, but your gear (sleeping bag, food, night kit, etc.) waits for you in your tent at the bivouac. During the stages, you walk with a small, light bag.

At the bivouac, you'll have access to showers and a bigger tent with a mattress provided.

On the programme: a timeless week in the Ica Desert, 3 stages on foot at your own pace, 3 nights at the bivouac facing the Pacific and 4 nights in a hotel.

The 2027 edition will be confirmed once 250 participants have registered (MDS 120 and MDS Trek combined), by 31 January 2027 at the latest. Until then, don't book your flights: we'll let you know as soon as it's confirmed.

MDS PERU 2027

TWO FORMATS, ONE ADVENTURE

In 2027, the MDS Peru brings two formats together in the same week. Same programme, same route, same bivouac on the Pacific coast: only the way you experience the desert changes.

The bivouac is shared: each format has its own features, but everyone can get together to share and connect.

MDS 120:

  • Run / Walk
  • Full self-sufficiency. You carry all your food and gear for the 4 days in the desert.
  • A simple bivouac. A classic MDS 120 tent is provided.

MDS Trek:

  • Walk
  • Food self-sufficiency, without carrying it. Your gear waits for you at the bivouac, and you walk at your own pace with a light bag.
  • A more comfortable bivouac. A bigger tent with a mattress provided, showers, and kettles of hot water for your freeze-dried meals.

Shared: the same dates, the same route (with distance options specific to each format), the same camp (each format has its own area) and the same gala evening in Paracas.

60 TO 100 KM

THE ROUTE

Choose the challenge that suits you: 60 to 100 km of walking in 3 stages.

A truly demanding trek, walking only: the route adapts to how hard you want to push, while giving you the full MDS experience.

  • Stage 1: about 25 km | 5 to 8 h of effort
  • Stage 2: distance of your choice: 20, 30 or 43 km | 4 to 14 h of effort
  • Stage 3: 20 or 27 km, your choice | 5 to 8 h of effort

You choose your distance during stages 2 and 3: you decide on the day, depending on how you feel, how tired you are and how far you want to push yourself.

ACCESSIBILITY

FOR ALL LEVELS

The MDS Trek Peru is a demanding trek designed for walkers: you discover the desert without having to carry everything, whatever your level.

  • Walk at your own pace, over the distance of your choice.
  • Generous cut-off times, designed for walkers.
  • A light bag: just the day's snacks and your safety kit.
  • A more comfortable bivouac to recover well between stages.

No racing here: every stage is walked, so you can enjoy the desert and every landscape.

BIVOUAC

LIFE AT THE BIVOUAC

Every night, you sleep at the MDS bivouac, facing the Pacific. Trek participants have their own area, with more comfort:

An individual tent, roomier than the MDS 120 one

A mattress provided

Nomad showers: a bucket of hot water

Hot water available in kettles for your meals.

Hot water available in kettles for your meals.

Your duffel bag waits for you at the bivouac from the end of the first stage

The bivouac stays in the same place throughout the adventure.

No electricity, no mobile network: just the essentials to reconnect with nature, with yourself and with others.

NOTHING TO CARRY

YOUR BAG WAITS FOR YOU AT CAMP

At the start of the first stage, you hand us your belongings and we take care of the rest:

  • Your duffel bag (40/60 L travel bag) with your sleeping bag, night gear, toiletries, food and anything that makes you happy (spare clothes, pillow…): we take it to the bivouac and you collect it at the info tent at the end of stage 1.
  • Your suitcase, if you wish, with the travel belongings you're not taking to camp: we take it straight to your hotel in Paracas, where you'll find it after the adventure.

You set off light: the day's snacks, your water and your safety kit, in a small, light bag.

FOOD SELF-SUFFICIENCY

FOOD

The MDS Trek Peru is run on food self-sufficiency: you bring all the food for your four days in the desert. The difference with the MDS 120: you don't carry it. It waits for you in your tent, and during the stages you only take the day's snacks (bars, nibbles, dried fruit…).

And since you don't carry it, treat yourself: tinned food, sardines, tastier meals… No need to count every gram like on the MDS 120.

At the bivouac, hot water is available to prepare your meals: no stove needed.

The organisation provides drinking water at the bivouac and at the checkpoints, roughly every 8 to 10 km. After each stage, you receive 5 litres of water to drink and wash until the next day.

To prepare well, plan for 10 to 12 meals, with a recommended minimum of 2,000 kcal per day.
