Namibia instantly won the hearts of the MARATHON DES SABLES team. In 2025, this land of breathtaking landscapes and deep-rooted history hosted MDS participants for the very first time.

A scorched and ancient land, the Namib is more than a desert — it’s a living masterpiece, shaped over 55 million years by wind and light. Here, infinity takes form through towering dunes and endless silence. The world’s oldest desert stretches for hundreds of kilometers, with some dunes soaring over 300 meters high. Their sharp ridges shift with every gust, creating a mesmerizing, ever-changing landscape.

But the Namib is more than just stunning views: it’s a miracle of life. Thousand-year-old plants, ingenious insects, silent oryxes, elusive jackals — all have found a way to survive, adapting to the extreme and revealing a fragile yet extraordinary balance.

What You Experience with MDS in Namibia

During this exceptional week, you’ll explore Walvis Bay and Swakopmund — two coastal towns combining colonial charm and raw nature.

Your adventure leads into the heart of the Namib, with stages across dunes, plains, and landscapes painted in changing light.

You’ll visit Sandwich Harbour, a rare place where dunes dive directly into the Atlantic Ocean, and observe wildlife adapted to the arid environment: seals, jackals, antelopes, seabirds — and sometimes even whales offshore.

You’ll also traverse the iconic Kodak Dunes, a dreamscape for photography lovers and desert adventurers alike.
