A time for sharing

Today a long caravan of solidarity stretched out across the Merzouga dunes, which are the highest in Morocco - a grandiose site for the final leg of the 30th SULTAN MARATHON DES SABLES. Compulsory but not counting towards the overall ranking (the top trio nevertheless receiving a prize), the Solidarité Unicef leg has extended the spirit of solidarity that is so dear to the event. The runners, the walkers, the supporters, the partners, all dressed in the same blue Unicef T-shirt thus formed a long string of runners and walkers snaking through the deep orange dunes.

The funds raised will notably enable the financing of the Solidarité MARATHON DES SABLES association created back in 2008 by Marie Bauer. It enables over 200 children to benefit from the Sport Eveil Académie operation and several dozen women to learn to read and write and its also raises awareness about various topics such as hygiene, health and nutrition, etc.

Without the pressure of a stopwatch, without the anxiety of having to give up on your dream, a lot of them sporting their finishers’ medals received the day before, the new MARATHON DES SABLES medallists were able to savour the final moment of their south-Moroccan Sahara immersion, which has taken them on such an amazing emotional journey of self-discovery.
